Enzymes - biocatalysts in biotechnology

Realization of goals in the bioeconomy with the help of biotechnological innovations and the optimal exploitation of the potential of the biocatalyst "enzyme".

The use of enzymes in the various biotechnology sectors is seen as the central core of the bioeconomy. For example, by producing biotechnological products sustainably with the help of enzymes and microorganisms, the eco-balance of biotechnology can be significantly optimized. To meet this challenge, our national research institutions, SMEs and large companies in the sector have joined forces to produce innovative solutions. Specifically, the innovation network next2ENZYME aims to implement new concepts that apply revolutionary enzyme engineering techniques and enable more sustainable fermentative processes.

The network is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, as well as by the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM).
